A Berth is the most basic accommodation available on the Station and is located on the station's Sub level. It is used by Peeps primarily to rest and recover from Drunkenness. Polvakian Gem Slugs will avoid it entirely and refuse to sleep in them.
Each berth consists of a variable size room with a minimum exterior footprint of five by five tiles. It requires at least one Door for access and at least one Slumber Pod to operate, although typically many more will be placed in each berth. Certain decorative Furniture can also be placed when designing the berth or later beamed in via the Pattern buffer.
As better accommodation becomes available on the Pleasure deck, berths may fall into disuse, save for the occasional Groulien Salt Hog and Grekka Targ worker, the only races that consider the pods a good place to sleep.

Compact and safe, sleeping Berth pods automatically induce slumber into any who enter them. The occupant is woken after precisely the right amount of REM sleep. Although not the most luxurious of accommodation, Berth Pods are effective and an efficient use of space.

Kasvagorians, Dahanese Siren, Turakken and Karmarama will suffer Mind penalties for sleeping in one of these. The Salt Hogs love them, gaining mind and Fun points, the Targ like them gaining mind points and the Zedem Monks and Greys tolerate them. All races that use them gain a small amount of Food points. Most races will seek out other sleeping arrangements if available. In particular, Gem Slugs will never use a berth.
